The Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics
Arising out of these considerations the following Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics is laid down by the Association for the guidance of its members in matters of conduct and etiquette.
- Providing oral health care utilising the highest level of professional knowledge, judgement and skill.
- To serve all patients without discrimination.
- To hold in confidence the details of professional services rendered by him\herself or by any employer and the confidence by\of any patient.
- To refrain from criticising the dental profession, his\her employer’s treatment of their patients, or any previous treatment.
- To function harmoniously with all professions in meeting the health needs of the public.
- Recognise and uphold the laws and regulations governing our profession.
- To comply with and support state and national Dental Acts and current standards of care and report any breach of such Act to responsible authorities.
- Create a healthy ecological environment in the workplace.
- Create a work environment that will minimise risk to the personal safety and health of our colleagues.
- Maintain a work environment which minimises the risk of harm to our patients.
- To support and participate responsibly in our professional Association and uphold its objectives and policies.
- Develop appropriate cooperative relationships and exchange knowledge with other health professional to enhance our own professional development.
- Advance professional competencies through continuous learning to meet the highest standards of care. Participate regularly in continuing professional education programs, reading current research and professional literature and participate in learning opportunities and active participation in our professional organisation.
- To hold confident all matters and details pertaining to the Association.
- No hygienist shall be allowed to give verbal or written statement via any form of public medium without the prior sanction from his\her respective Dental Board, State Branch or the Association.
